A Case for Cold Weather Cannabis

By Emily Pinkos

As those of us living in the top-right-corner of this country know, winter is brutal for so many reasons. Everything seems to be more difficult once we set our clocks back an hour. It seems like every pain we have only gets worse as it gets colder; this is the case for Winter Weed.

So why do things hurt more in the winter? There are a few theories. One is that the cold air makes everything in your body tighter, and that clenching can lead to more muscle and joint pain. Another idea is that in chillier weather (understatement), the fluid between your joints is slower to move and therefore worse at doing its job, which leads to more aches. Then there’s the whole idea of barometric pressure, and things aching when it rains or something in the atmosphere shifts. Whatever the reason may be, it’s a pretty terrible way to feel. And that’s where cannabis comes in.

Using marijuana is amazing at any time of year, but I find myself even more grateful for it once winter rolls around and aches and pains get significantly worse. If you’re waking up in freezing temps but you have a day ahead of you, microdosing could be the right way to go. Consuming a low-dose edible (you can find great options on our menu) provides some comfort and relief, but not to the point of being stoned. A topical treatment infused with THC and/or CBD is also a great solution to sore muscles and achy joints. If you have the day free and your pain is spending it with you, there’s always the big guns. Whether you prefer edibles, concentrates, or some flower, you’re going to find real relief. And you deserve that!
